Located in the village of Holstein, Immanuel's first services were held in 1833 in a small log schoolhouse. The church was known at that time as The German Evangelical Church of charrette. The first Christmas program was presented on December 26, 1848. It was said to be the first of its kind with a candlelit tree, homemade ornaments and presents for the children. The church as it stands today was built in 1884. A Hinners pipe organ was installed in 1909 and is still used in services today.

The German Evangelical Church, St. Paul's UCC was established in Marthasville in 1863. The church now in use was dedicated in 1906 and the parsonage in 1914.
